About me

The name's Frédérick, and this is my blog.

I'm a third year student in Mechanical Engineering at Laval University(Ulaval). From 2012 to 2014 I've been part of the Avion Cargo Laval student group, who participates in the SAE aero design competition every year. In 2012-2013 I was responsible for fabrication, while in 2013-2014 I also did the 3D modeling of the plane, along with some structure design. My achievement that year was designing the structure in a way that made it so it couldn't be assembled wrong, by making everything fit together like a 3D puzzle using tabs and holes to mate parts. This in turn streamlined the fabrication process and made it possible to laser cut the parts instead of hand making them, all while removing every possible alignment errors.

In 2014-2015 I managed a FIRST robotics team, team 4167. The team was composed of 9 mentors, who came from many different specialties: Teachers, engineers, software engineers, programming students, marketing experts, and 16 secondary school(high-school) students. That year was the team's best year since it's inception. We grew, we created bonds, and made the program known in the area. Sadly, due to budget cuts at the school, the team got axed.

Now i'm part of the GAUL, building a rocket for the 2016 International Rocket Engineering Competition.

I've always loved making and designing things, mostly out of wood since it's the easiest material to get cheap tools for. In the past I've made many things unrelated to engineering; Longbows, an Electric guitar, a bed, wooden swords for cosplay. I'm now trying to get more engineering related experience by toying with electronics, modifying CNC design, making a quadcopter, and other things that are on my very long to do list.

Formally, my interest includes electric motors, control, fabrication, aerospace in general, robot combat, cosplay, animes, and Vocaloids.
